THE REALITY BEHIND REALITY TV—HOLLYWOOD’S FAVORITE MOM-STAR TELLS IT LIKE IT IS

Tori Spelling is the first to admit that the “reality” behind her popular television show, Tori & Dean, isn’t always real. Not even Star Magazine could invent the true chaos that happens behind the scenes. Luckily, Tori is famously honest and self-deprecatingly funny when it comes to her personal life. She’s always Spelling It Like It Is…

Life is never boring at Tori’s house, but since her New York Times bestselling memoirs sTORI Telling, Mommywood, and Uncharted terriTORI, things have been especially unpredictable: Finding out she was pregnant with her third baby after nearly vomiting live on the Home Shopping Network; trying to hide her fourth pregnancy so soon after giving birth (as her stylist said, “who would be that crazy?”); being rescued from a paparazzo by a mom lynch mob; stalking her celebrity neighbor; and allowing cameras to film every personal detail of her life—from the most challenging time in her marriage to the only time in six years when she really felt as though those cameras invaded her privacy.

Tori shares these stories and many more with the usual humor, candor, and down-to-earth charm that her fans love. She also writes openly about her biggest challenges: the terrifying health problems surrounding her high-risk pregnancy with youngest son Finn, her guilt over missing baby Hattie’s early months because she was in the hospital on bed rest, her struggles (and failures) to live within her means after growing up in opulence, discovering how much she has in common with her late mega-producer father, Aaron Spelling, and falling in love with Dean all over again (hint: it didn’t happen at their vow renewal ceremony).

After years of intimately revealing her everyday antics onscreen, Tori’s life is still full of surprises. Slowing down long enough to enjoy them? Now that’s another sTORI.

Dean needs to get a J. O. B. great read but frustrating
By Parks Family
Very quick and easy read. What I like about Tori's books is that she really tells it like it is but shes in total denial. Her family moves several times as they can't afford their current house(s). Then then when they decide they can't afford a Christmas vacation....one comment from her children on Christmas Day about the lack of snow and she's desperately looking for a holiday condo in Tahoe. When she doesn't like the 3 bedroom condo she has rented cause you can't ski from the front door to the slope...she's uprooting the family mid vacation and moving into the HYATT. Even though they have NO money. Ridiculous.
AND can someone tell me what does Dean do for living apart from moving from hobby to hobby??? I mean if he's at home taking care of kids while Tori works power to him. BUT throughout the book Tori talks about the baby nurse, the part time nanny, the full time nanny and the live in housekeeper....so what's Dean doing? Get a paying job and help out.
Though Tori admits her issues with money she does nothing about it. I liked the book but I wanted to shake some sense into her.

A Very Honest Book
By DNI
I've enjoyed all of Tori Spelling's books, she has a great sense of humor and doesn't take herself too seriously. This was probably the most honest of her books, dealing with a very serious and scary time in her life. She doesn't spare any details when talking about the struggles she went through in her last pregnancy and the health risks she endured. It's a very interesting story about what can happen to your body when you get pregnant again 1 month after giving birth. It's a miracle her baby Finn survived and that she made it through that pregnancy. She is a fighter and a strong woman. She also talks a lot about her constant desire to move homes and their struggles to live within their means when she never had to worry about such a thing her entire life. Reading this book now, knowing she is going through a real cheating scandal with her husband Dean made the story more sad, but also a view behind the curtain to see what might have lead him to make such selfish & poor decisions cheating on Tori. Her life never seems to slow down. Her mind is ALWAYS on what her next job will be, how to do it and do it best. Plus be a mom with dangerous pregnancy complications on top of that. I got the impression that although she loves Dean dearly, she may have unknowingly pushed her husband aside for her work and her kids. She is the bread winner of the family, so you can't blame her for go-go-going all the time, but she needs to find some balance & learn to actually stop when she has a free moment & not decide to move again or think or another new project.

This is an enjoyable book and as a reader, I appreciate her humor & her honesty.

Spelling's sTORI ~ a tool to make you appreciate that you don't live in a zoo & relocate every few months
By CM Albert
Here's the thing. If you "like" Tori, or just like being voyeuristic and watching her life unfold, you will like this book -- even though it did not deliver nearly as well as her first few books did. As always, the cover is gorgeous, as are the pictures inside. They are fun to look at and feel like you get a little "peek" into her life (or, the peek she chooses to share). If you aren't a fan of Tori, don't bother with this book. I don't understand people who buy books and then rip them all to shreds. Surely, if you feel that way, you aren't really a Tori "fan." For me, she's a fascinating woman, who on one hand is just like the rest of us when it comes to her kids, and on the other, is this enigma you can't look away from. I admire her moxie and genius-ness when it comes to running her business and brand. Despite her inability to stop spending and making poor real estate decisions (which she goes into details about in this book), she is actually a smart lady. She plays dumb sometimes. She's not.

That said, while reading this book, I physically felt sick to my stomach with the real estate decisions she made, the money she lost hand over fist, and the debacle she found herself in with her home. She is much more of a risk taker than I am, and I physically wanted to shake her and tell her that a new house isn't going to make her happy. She's looking in the wrong places for the right things we all want in our lives. And I think all of this became evident in the wake of the news that broke after this book was published, around the instability of her marriage.

But, at the end of the day, her books are meant to be fun and funny, light reading, a little juicy and revealing (this wasn't as much on that side, but you still feel like you're hearing "insider" secrets), and relatable--especially for mothers and women.

So, was this a ground breaking book? No. Was it good? Yeah, it was all right. It was exactly what it promises to be: a quick bubblegum read that takes you along a small part of the journey Tori and her family have taken.

Now, what I'm really excited about is the book that I hope comes out next! And I hope she can reach a little deeper for that one, and be as truthful as possible. Because at the end of the day, that's why we read Tori's books time and again. Because we feel like we "get" her and "know" her on some level, and we're rooting for her to come out okay in the end.
