Heather's got a hunky new guy and a grumpy old ghost.
First it was Jack, the hot teenage ghost. Now it's Zac, an all-too-alive bad boy. Not to mention trouble with Drew, Audrey and the usual BFF dramas. The last thing Heather needs is a new haint on the scene, especially not the ghost of her cantankerous grandfather.

Four weeks were all that was left of summer vacation, if you counted Thursday registration the first week of August, and I did.
I had made some progress on the summer goal front.
1) My older sister Audrey tolerated my existence more than at the beginning of summer, as long as her friends weren't around and my geeky friend Xavier kept his distance.
2) Drew and I chatted. So at least I was on his radar. But he had a clingy girlfriend I wanted to unwrap from his frame.
Then trouble arrived in a muscle car--our neighbors' bad boy grandson Zac. Audrey called dibs on him, which was fine with me. Drew made no bones about disliking him, also fine with me. But for some reason I may never understand, Zac liked freaky me. So you know what that meant--my progress with my sister and the lifeguard of my dreams reached yet another stumbling block. My problems multiplied exponentially at the arrival of another visitor and his sweet pipe tobacco scent--my ghostly grandfather.
Just what I needed--a crabby octogenarian haint to complicate everything.

Although Georgia author Maureen Hardegree concedes to having all the usual baggage of a middle child, she is NOT a ghost handler. She does, however, believe in connecting with her inner teenager and in feeding her active imagination--it likes Italian food and chocolate. Another great Heather adventure. Boys, summer, sisters and a Grandapa haint that follows her around giving her advice on boys, summer, and sisters, all while waiting to hear something special from someone special. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I can’t tell you how much I love this young adult series.

So much so that I buy several copies of the books each time a new one comes out and send them to my teen nieces. Of course I always keep a copy for myself.
Heather Tildy isn’t your normal teenager. Nope. Not only does she have to worry about boys, hormones, skin allergies, irritating sisters and geeky friends, she also has to worry about the fact that she’s a magnet for ghosts, too. In the third adventure of Maureen Hardegree’s The Ghost Handler Series, Heather gets the pleasure of handling her grandfather’s ghost. This might be kind of cool if he wasn’t trying to interfere with everything.
On top of the ghost thing, she’s dealing with a crush who is suddenly noticing her (and his clingy girlfriend), a jealous best friend (a guy who wants more than just to be friends), a sister (and her snooty friends who want nothing to do with Heather) who is all about the new boy in the neighborhood, and the new boy being interested in Heather (not her sister or her sister’s snooty friend). What more could make Heather’s summer more complicated?
Each time she thinks she’s got things figured out, Heather’s grandfather steps in and questions her motives, her decisions, and how she handles the outcome. Not only does she have to deflect his interest in her love life, but she also has to keep her grandfather from noticing that her grandmother has moved on without him. Not an easy task when Heather obviously gets her tenacity from his side of the family.
Just when she thinks she has his problem solved and ready for him to move on, she finds out the real reason he’s been hanging on has more to do with her than anything or anyone else.
Like the two other books in the series, Say it Haint So is a fun, easy read that leaves you with a really good feeling. I love that Heather is flawed. I also love that every time she messes up, she finds a way to make things right again. Ms. Hardegree doesn’t gloss over the real problems that teenagers face today. Nope. She puts her heroine smack dab in the middle of the mess and allows her to find her own way out of them.
I can’t wait to read the next installment of the series. After all, I’m still thinking something more will happen with Xavier. :)
