A guidebook to nine cycling tours for road and touring bikes, based on Switzerland's national cycle routes. Not only does Switzerland hold many of Europe's highest mountains, glaciers and azure lakes but there is also a wonderful 3300km national Swiss cycling network. Between 1998 and 2006 40 million CHF was invested in cycle routes, planning and signposting. The design philosophy is to guide cyclists onto quiet roads and cycleways (unpaved), and the signing means you don't have to spend the whole time looking at maps or a GPS!
This book is aimed at experienced cyclists who wish to go to Switzerland to test themselves and their bikes, and new cyclists who would like to ride amid exhilarating scenery, but without much sweat and certainly no tears.
The nine national routes are described, followed by a series of tours radiating from Interlaken and finally in the Alpine Star, a trio of tours for the very fit.

About the Author
Judith and Neil learned the delights of continental cycling after moving to Germany. Together they explored much of southern Germany, eastern France and Switzerland by bicycle. They gained a reputation for British eccentricity when they cycled over the Alps from Heidelberg to Brissago on Lago Maggiore. They are both very fond of Switzerland, especially the well signposted national cycle routes.

The definitive guide to bike touring in Switzerland!

We used this book as the planning guide for the Switzerland phase of a 3 week bike tour. I highly recommend it for its thoroughness, incredible detail, and the variety of the tours. The authors clearly put a tremendous amount of time into "getting it right" and including tours for all levels and interests, from cruises along Switzerland's bike paths to thigh-busting mountain pass crossings. Be aware that (in my opinion) the Swiss bike paths themselves are not as easy to follow as one might think. As opposed to the bike paths in Italy and Austria, many of the Swiss bike path signage includes only the route number, or worse, the sub-route number (i.e. 2C), so it can be difficult to navigate without a really detailed map. However this book is great, and includes every turnoff and small village so that you know exactly what to expect. Highly recommended!

Useful guidebook. Has all the essential information for the described routes, with some additional options for more/less challenging routes. I circumnavigated the country, linking the national bicycle routes, using only this book and a handful of free maps from information centers (the routes are incredibly well marked to begin with).
My only complaint is that it lacks some useful info that most travel books (such as Rick Steves) would include. For example, a few good places to sleep and eat are listed for each stage of a given itinerary, which is great if you are planning to stay in hotels and eat at cafes along the way. However, if you are on a shoestring budget looking to camp and utilize grocery stores (which can be scarce in less populated regions) then you will need to find that information elsewhere.
Lastly, don't read too much into the elevation profiles. They are more akin to estimates than the actual topography.

This book is superb!!! My wife and I cycled completely across Switzerland with this hard copy in hand. When you ride (a tandem) totally unassisted in a foreign country it's nice to have an English version on hand. We didn't use all of it as we mostly rode Routes #1, #9, and #6, but the other sections were helpful to decide what options the other routes held. It is well organized and along with the Switzerland Mobility app, we were never in real doubt about our route or daily lodging possibilities, food, or what might's ahead in road conditions, weather possibilities, trains and travel alternatives, route combinations, you name it or they lead you to where you can find what you need. Don't Leave Home Without It!, Seriously, don't rely on the internet or your electronic devices. We carried two Garmin gps's an Edge 810 and an Edge 705, Avocet Vertech, hardcopy maps, as well as this great book. This book is a must carry as s*** happens my fellow long distance riding friends and it will, You must carry this book.
