One hell of a fun ride

I've read Bryan Smith, intermittently, since I caught one of his early books in paperback from Leisure. I liked it. Hadn't caught back up with him in this new digital age, but just bought this title about three days ago and finished it last night. So glad I did. This was a fun, unrelenting, thrill ride. The story just got better and better and while I don't want to give anything away, the interconnected faucets of the plot kept you racing through the book. A wonderful experience and I would highly recommend this to any fan of horror literature. Well done, Bryan, and I'll be picking up more of your titles in the future.

THE LATE NIGHT HORROR SHOW is about to begin!

THE LATE NIGHT HORROW SHOW is Bryan Smith's new novel and it is one of his best. SHOW starts off with a few friends going to a theatre to see a movie...what happens next is a mind-bending series of events that will haunt you days after finishing the novel. Smith has created a world where unbelievable things are happening...but he makes it seem like they really could. Great characters in an engaging plot surrounded by gore, blood, murder and mayhem. Bryan Smith continues his run of great horror novels and it is great to see him in print with Smahaim publishing, as the editor there, Don DeLauria, was the editor at Leisure when that house was delivering the best in the horror genre. Smith adds to Samhain's great lineup of writers.

A Terror-filled Romp into Horror!

Samhain Publishing just keeps getting it right when it comes to horror. With every new release, they continue to push the boundaries of terror and offer up a nice diversity of new and unique frights. Their upcoming release, THE LATE NIGHT HORROR SHOW, is a perfect example of this. Wildly entertaining and full of the horror that fans like me love, this book thrills on many different levels.

Author Bryan Smith is certainly a writer to watch out for. With a vast imagination and an easy-to-read style of writing, Smith is already a force in the world of horror fiction. He has several novels under his belt, and I have decided to check out as many as I can.

THE LATE NIGHT HORROR SHOW is fast-paced and written well. The wording and sentence structure flow nicely, which allows the reader full immersion into the world Smith creates. And you definitely want full immersion with this book. There are plenty of scares and gore to satiate even the hardest of hardcore horror fans.

The characters are widely diverse and fleshed out to the point of realism. I specifically have to point out how well Smith nails the stereotypical Southern traits within them; as a Southerner myself, I am proud of how well he writes them into the story.

My sole complaint about THE LATE NIGHT HORROR SHOW is that there's way too much profanity for me, specifically F-bombs. Normally I don't object to cussing in horror novels, but when it is used so often (like on almost every single page) that I start noticing it, I feel that's a bit too much. Some folks might not care, but I feel this is worth mentioning.

Otherwise, THE LATE NIGHT HORROR SHOW is an excellent foray into terror. It is a taut horror-fest that will keep you riveted and turning the pages late into the night. I highly recommend this one so give it a look next week when it hits shelves.

YUM! Great Recipes from Anytime Snacks to Zappala's Marinara

I really love to eat but I truly hate to cook. My big beefs with cooking are that it takes too much time and the recipes are always difficult. Then a friend gave me Janet's cookbook and dared me to try a recipe. I was having a group of colleagues over so I decided to prepare the vegetarian chili (and I'm not even a vegetarian.) My gosh, the chili was easy to make AND such a hit that people commented on what a great cook I was. Who would ever think? I've tested out more recipes and have never had such AMAZING marinara sauce! The mascarpone stuffed chicken (which I like to call Al Capone chicken) is delicious, too. This book has opened up a whole new world for me. I'm never going to admit that I "love" cooking but I will say that Janet's recipes have transformed my eating habits and kitchen rituals. I highly recommend this book and have started giving it to my cooking and non-cooking friends as a gift!

Hearty Yet Healthy Meal is a Hit!

Janet's recipe for pasta and broccoli with garlic cheese sauce hits the spot! It is rare to find a recipe that yields a meal that is as hearty as it is healthy. This recipe is the perfect option for weight conscious individuals that still want to eat "real" food. The other recipes in the book are equally as enticing. I can't wait to eat my way through this cookbook one recipe at a time!

Inaccurate

I purchased this cookbook a few days ago and have been reading the recipes. I bought it because it offers great recipes for Italian food that have a calorie and fat count. My husband and I are health-conscious eaters and want to have the nutrition information about recipes. I found that in this cookbook the calorie counts for the recipes seem way too low. For example, the recipe for Cream of Pepper Pasta shows the calorie count, based on 1/4 pound of pasta with sauce, as being 299 calories. According to my box of whole wheat pasta, 100 grams of pasta (which is less that one quarter pound) has 370 calories in it...without the sauce. The sauce has 2 tablespoons of olive oil and one-quarter cup of heavy cream, so I just don't see how the calorie count for this dish can be 299 calories per serving. The recipe for Hummus lists the calorie count at 60 calories, based in one quarter of the recipe per serving. But, the recipe calls for over 8 tablespoons of olive oil. One tablespoon of olive oil has 120 calories. If there are 2 tablespoons of olive oil in each serving, than the calorie count per serving has to be more that 240 calories. Maybe I am missing something...but the numbers just don't add up. It is disconcerting to me because I bought this cookbook with the idea that we could eat a good Italian meal and stay within our calorie requirements. But, I simply don't trust the numbers. I will probably return the book and try to find a cookbook that I feel is more accurate.

Disney, but much more!

Disney Stories: Getting to Digital was both intriguing and filled with history. I was engaged and amazed by the knowledge and light this book shed on the digital world of Disney, but it had an even larger focus on the innovation of creating characters and stories that captivate an audience as a whole, which I found completely fascinating.
The booked talked about how Disney progressed not only digitally but also with analog and narrative. The digital aspect revolutionized and grew its popularity, it contributes greatly to the “Disney” we know and love today in more than one-way. However, something fascinating that I picked up on, was the tone of the writer when in discussion of digital media. Initially when first reading this book, I wondered about where the writer stood in contributing to this knowledge. How factual was what I was reading? When I soon found out that they had worked with Disney for sometime, I began to understand more where the perspective was coming from.
The writer; Newton Lee had been a key engineer for Walt Disney’s Internet group. His recollection of Disney when he was working there were the focus on this book entirely. It went in to full detail about subjects like web presence, software used and created by Disney, the development of websites and productions and much more! The book covers all aspects digital but in a way that keeps readers tied in. I have read books about media, digital revolution, computer technology, and such that can easily become dry with spiting out facts and sentences that make the read feel like a task and less of an enjoyment. It also cover’s the business side of things, the success within the industry, distribution and merchandising. We also read a bit about the theater to home transformation. When movies were only visible in theaters but then transformed to DVDs which allowed us to take that story home and watch it in the comfort of our PJs; not just once but as many times as we please. This book covers these aspects but keeps returning to the big picture of Disney itself, which is why it makes for an exciting read.
Being a filmmaker, I admire the books focus on storytelling and how it’s traveled. To break down all that we’ve evolved from to a simple word; Storytelling could not sum it up any better. Storytelling is a form of communication. It’s something us filmmakers constantly analyze in our heads; who is going to enjoy our story, who is actually going to watch it, is it going to spread, how will I communicate what I’ve made with others around me? Questions on questions could grow about the word storytelling. But it’s understood by this writer; that there is great importance in telling each other what we have made, what we believe in, and who we are through story telling. As the way we tell stories improves, the beauty in how we can communicate and get our points across, becomes more clear and more valued.
Overall, I am impressed with what I read. I understood the aspects where the digital world grew and its importance but I enjoyed the writer’s perspective on storytelling and the detail within how it was done at Disney. The history and innovative moves will keep you wanted to read more. I recommend this book to anyone as a wonderful addition to their list of books to read!

The magic of Disney has been influencing children for decades and this book gives us a great behind the scenes look of how that magic was created. The histories behind these Disney stories are rich and full of detail. The conversion from analog to digital was the biggest change that they had to overcome. When they were successfully able to finish the conversion, it set a standard for visuals and story telling that DreamWorks and other animation companies had to catch up with later on. I found it fascinating how they worked as a team with some of the most talented individuals that the industry had to offer, to make amazing cartoons that kids hold close to their hearts. What was interesting to read was the idea of how the analog process worked. I also enjoyed learning about digitals transformation and its impact was greater than expected. This book covered all knowledge within the universe of technology and things from data to conversation from the beginning to end process. In this new age of animation and filmmaking we see amazing visuals because technology has evolved so much but Disney remembers that story comes first and foremost. They continue to deliver emotional stories, and to go in deeper on how these stories were put together, the book gives us a great insight. Newton Lee’s insight caught my eye especially and he gives a look behind doors that I never thought could be opened. Without the team the Walt Disney himself assembled, we wouldn’t have some of the most iconic stories that I grew up with. The author’s choice of words made this an easy and interesting read. The facts presented made me want to know more and more. The pacing was amazing because new facts were introduced that were relevant to each topic. I enjoyed the writer’s perception and opinions because I believe he wasn’t biased but realistic about the events that occurred during its history. It’s amazing that he was able to give us in inside scoop considering he’s experiences from working there. The conclusion I came to after reading this book was that the most important thing is storytelling. Stories are extremely important to society because they can teach children and even adults’ moral lessons in an entertaining way. They can make us feel and bring us close with our emotions. It can lead us in the right direction in life by bringing up what’s important in your life. Some stories such as Toy Story has had such a heavy impact on my life. It taught me what friendship and family were all about. It taught me that you can argue with your loved ones but you need to know how to solve and defuse the situation because it’s healthy. I recommend more readers part take in this book, it is fast to read yet packed with interesting topics. It will give you special knowledge in how these wonderful stories are created.

Disney historian or not this book is incredibly fascinating and intriguing. Not only focusing on the digital aspects of how Disney helped revolutionize, because of its popularity, the transition of adapting a feature length film to an interactive digital environment. It was also fascinating to read about how exactly Disney to this day still keeps a strong focus on telling and sharing stories and to hear Disney himself talk about the fundamentals of narratives.
Since this book was written by someone who personally knew and researched a lot about Disney, it made the book more intriguing and captivating to keep reading because it felt like a you were reading someone’s personal inside scoop on many things. Not to mention the perspective coming from a more current time era with advancing technology coming into play with upcoming projects. As well as getting to see the digital, more technical, perspective on addressing the changes and evolution Disney went through in game designs, computer graphics, and other integrated applications. What was specifically surprising to hear at first for some reason was to hear about the amount of freedom with artistic choice for Disney artists to choose whether or not a movie should be made in 2D, 3D,CGI, or real life.
From a film maker’s standpoint, the question “Why do we make such effort to share stories” is a constant question I think every narrative related artist should ask themselves every once in a while. This question being the common theme during the first few pages of the book made me think about how creativity and networking, not only within Disney’s tactics in business and entertainment, come hand in hand when it comes to being successful within any industry. Whether it ranges from digital design and screenplays to marketing distribution and merchandising, the essence of bringing a story from a theatre to the comfort of your home and spreading around your neighborhood lingers in countless of different ways.
“Stories are not the only way we make sense of the world however, they are also the fundamental way in which we communicate with each other: the way we tell each other what we’ve done, who we are, and what we believe in”. Beautifully said in my opinion and I one hundred percent agree. If it wasn’t for the foundation of storytelling descending from cave paintings and carvings we wouldn’t have this ever evolving mecca of news, stories, connections, and sense of communication between each other. Especially within social media today. Having the primary form of communication be deprived from almost no communication at all, pictures on a cave wall, should be considered to be one of earth’s most mind blowing concepts.
Overall, what impressed me the most about Disney Stories: Getting to Digital was getting to heart of understanding what the digital and traditional heart of storytelling meant around the Disney environment. Wonderful insight on the constantly experimenting, advancing, and collaboration within the Disney Corporation with excellent writing to go along with it. 100% would recommend.

Schopenhauer is great, even when read backwards

At the beginning of WWR Vol. I Schopenhauer recommends reading Kant's 'A Critique of Pure Reason' (Schopenhauer insists you read the first edition; no others), than read his 'Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason', then finally read 'The World as Will and Representation' through twice, cover to cover. Schopenhauer essentially presents the fundamental concepts regarding his ideas in WWR Vol. I, expands upon them further in WWR Vol. II with real world examples, and then goes even further in the 'Parerga and Paralipomena' and his other ancillary writings ('On the Basis of Morality', etc.).

I'm usually exhausted from work, so trying to follow pages worth of complex ideas is difficult (it's not that they can't be followed, it just takes more effort than I was willing to put in. Besides, have you ever tried to read Kant?). So I took the opposite approach from what Schopenhaer suggested; I basically started with the end of WWR Vol. II (section IV of this book) and am going through the process backwards, selectively reading chapters that sound interesting. I've found that this, supplemented with a Wikipedia article or two on Kantian terminology has been more than sufficient. I find the essays in sections III and IV of this second volume very easy to follow. I actually keep this book by my bedside, and read portions of it on a regular basis. I've actually memorized entire portions (it's that good).

The best essay (which is very short) is 'On the Affirmation of the Will-to-Live'. It's only about 5 pages, and contains gems like, "Therefore because the [parent] has enjoyed sensual pleasure, the [child] must live, suffer, and die." Truer words have never been spoken.

Schopenhauer also delivers a blistering condemnation of modern Protestantism, I believe it's in "The Doctrine of the Denial of the Will-to-Live". Schopenhauer is widely renowned for being an atheist, but I would actually argue he was a Christian, in the allegorical sense (he actually says in the 'Parerga and Paralipomena' that his philosophy is Christian philosophy proper). I have a small library on Gnosticism, and if you read the essays in section IV of this book and compare them with the Biblical Gospels and gnostic ideology (such as that laid out by Hans Jonas in 'The Gnostic Religion') it may alter your views on just what Christianity is.

It also bears mentioning that I've found E.F.J. Payne's translations to be superior to those of others, which is no doubt why they are the official English translations selected by the Schopenhauer-Gesellschaft.

For the price, this is one of the best books you'll ever buy.

The easiest introduction to the modern epistemology

When I was a student of a high school, I read only the first chapter of this book. It was easy enough to read, while Kant was too difficult. He told me as a kind teacher and explained the epistemology as easily as possible. He shows that the world is recognized and constructed by your view and only your viewpoint, and that everything is the simple chaos if you don't recognize it. It is you that are the subject, while objects are meaningless without your cognition. This typical epistemological thought has brought me the wholesome skepticism about the objectivity. The certainty that there are no types of objectivity has become not the knowledge, but the mind since my adolescence.
The epistemological thinking can be the foundation of all sciences, though it seems a lie. Please don't confuse the ease of this book with its importance. I would advise the young people to read the first chapter at least.

Pretty good

Monsters in your neighborhood is the 2nd book in Jesse Petersen's Monstrosity series. It follows the lives of several "monsters" from literary history as they find ways to function in daily life and avoid bringing unwanted attention to themselves. When I requested this book from Netgalley, I didn't realize it was the second in the series. That being said, at no point did I feel like I had to go back and read the first book in order to understand what was going on. There are enough clues throughout the book that make it so you won't be lost.

Natalie is the daughter of Dr. Frankenstein. She runs a support group for other monsters which includes her boyfriend the werewolf, a vampire, a swamp lizard, a couple of mummies, and now a Cthulhu. They live in New York City and are all just trying to get by and live their lives. When an unknown monster shows up on the internet ripping apart an innocent human, things start to get dangerous. Between trying to find the monster, and trying to avoid the Van Helsings, these monsters are doing anything but staying safe and sound inside their homes. They are joined by Igor who has become a flamboyant, interior design loving character who offers a whole different kind of humor to the situation.

Natalie is a very strong character. She is just trying to be a normal girl, scars and all. She wants a normal life with a normal boyfriend and wants to prove to herself more than anyone else, I think, that she is not a monster. She is a very take charge kind of character and I really liked that she was able to keep her cool throughout all of the craziness. There were actually 2 very strong female leads in this book, which is refreshing because you don't see that all of the time. Now that I think about it, Petersen's Married with Zombies has a very very strong female lead character as well.

I liked this book. It was easy to read and to follow. It was a quick read for me and I picked it out because I really liked Petersen's other series, Living with the Dead. Petersen's writing is full of clever one liners and awful, but entertaining situations.

I think pretty much anyone can enjoy this book. It is pretty much straight paranormal, not really much romance other than that this person is with that person kind of thing. It's a cute book and I'm pretty sure I will go back and read the first in the series even though I think I know, at least to some degree, what happened at the end.

Three and a half stars: A fast paced and entertaining adventure with all your favorite monsters.

It has been six months since the Van Helsing attack on the Club Monstrosity support group. The monsters have settled back into their routines, and they have resumed their weekly support meetings. A new member, Patrick a cthulhu, has joined the gang. However, the peace is short lived since the Van Helsings are dead set on starting a new war. When a video of a Frankenstein Monster attacking someone in New York goes viral, Natalie and the rest of the monsters realize they must take action immediately to prevent the Van Helsings from gaining an upper hand. Can Natalie and the rest of the Club Monstrosity stop a war?

What I Liked:
*The Monsters in Your Neighborhood picks up six months down the road and it is a fast and furious adventure. I love that these books are short so you can pick one up and read it in one sitting. Even though it is a quick read, it delivers a fun story that leaves you satisfied. If you are in the mood for novella type books that deliver and won't leave you wanting, get this series.
*Once again, I loved the creativity and new twists on the age old monster lore that we all know and love. The Frankenstein monster is a female named Natalie, and there is a lovable and smart werewolf Alec, along with the Lizard woman Linda and two centuries old mummies. There is a new addition to the line up, Patrick who is a cthulhu, which is a winged creature with tentacles on his face who lives in the sewers. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the characters, and I think the spin on the famous monsters is a blast. Even Igor, minus his humpback thanks to plastic surgery, makes an appearance in this one.
* I was excited to see the diabolical and monstrous Hyde return, and he certainly does not disappoint. Hyde is evil and scheming, a true villain, one who will thrill and chill.
* I enjoyed the fast pace of the story. The entire novel moves at a quick clip which means the plot never drags. Everything whips along at a rapid but even rate. There is never a dull moment. This book is energetic and entertaining.
*The sequel outshines its predecessor with more humor, action and adventure. This book has more depth, and I found it to be much more engaging than the first book. Hopefully, this series will continue to grow and deliver.
And The Not So Much:
*Once again, I was a bit disappointed with the romance between Alec and Natalie. In the first book, there is an attraction and it moves quickly to a romantic relationship. I was expecting this time around for a little more heat and spark, but it remains a bit on the shallow side. I would love to know more about how a wolf and a Frankenstein monster make their romance work. The bit of romance that is present is enjoyable, and I do like the relationship between the two. This is an urban fantasy, and books in the UF genre are not known for romance. So if you are a true UF connoisseur, you won't be feel cheated by the fast romance.
*I am completely unfamiliar with the cthulhu. I wanted a bit more description and detail on this monster. What are its powers? Weaknesses? I don't think I am the only one who hasn't encountered this sewer dwelling, tentacled creation. Aside from being ignorant on the cthulhu, I found Patrick to be a thoroughly likable character, one I hope to get to know better down the road.
*The ending is a bit open, not a cliffhanger, but here are some interesting ideas presented on how the monsters are going to deal with the latest threat of exposure to the humans courtesy of the Van Helsings. I am very curious as to how things will develop, and I am hoping there will be a third installment.

The Monsters in Your Neighborhood did not disappoint with its fun storyline, entertaining monsters and fast, adventure packed pace. If you are a fan of books that you can whip through in one sitting and you enjoy monsters, definitely give this series a whirl. I love the ingenious twists on the old favorite monsters.

Quick & Dirty: It's the age old battle of monsters versus humans, but brand new technology gives provides unexpected leverage.

Opening Sentence: If only the Blob hadn't died, Natalie never would have been in this position.

The Review:

The Monsters in Your Neighborhood picks up six months after Club Monstrosity. Natalie and the other monsters have fallen back into their normal routines. She and Alec are nursing their budding relationship and the group has welcomed a new member to the group, a Cthulhu named Pat. They all know it's the calm before the storm, the first hint? A video of a huge monster ripping the arm off some homeless man in Central Park goes viral on the internet and being as tech savvy as he is, Alec the werewolf is the first to find it. Because she works at the city morgue, Natalie is the one to confirm that this video is no prank. Her boss shows her the body of a hobo missing all of one arm. This video sets the whole group into motion, but one member seems a little off her game.

Linda the swam dweller is usually a sobbing, whining mess at the first hint of bad news. She is easily the single most annoying character I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Natalie fully expects the full waterworks when she and Alec give the group the information about this video but instead Linda is cool as a cucumber and ready to act. I found it super odd that no one really commented on this. The only one who reflects on the extreme personality shift is Alec who suddenly notices how pretty Linda could be if she didn't have to wear her "human" make up all the time. It's a little odd how he takes several minutes to reflect on the colors of her scales and the fierceness she's been hiding from them all these years. Come to find out, the swamp dweller has a mysterious new boyfriend-another fact no one in this group decides to think too much on until it is entirely too late. As slow as the group is to pick up on Linda's sudden and extreme character shift, they are super quick on the uptake when Alec goes missing and then shows up a little less than two days later with memory loss.

Now between the video, the missing werewolf and the not so subtle sticky notes with the word WAR written above a VH signature, it's not too terribly difficult to figure out that the Van Helsing family is up to something. That something is a evil and genius plot that brings this book into the 21st century. Rather than spur up mobs of angry villagers themselves, the Van Helsing family has started a Twitter feed with the hashtag #killthemonsters which starts gaining followers almost immediately after the video surfaces. By posting videos and pictures of Natalie and the others, the Van Helsing's won't have to lift a finger to fight, crazy followers will do it for them. That's right. This war is now virtual.

I thought the use of Twitter and YouTube in this novel were creative and amusing, but it really took something away for me. It is stressed repeatedly in the story, how much the Van Helsing's hate the monsters. Every detail about this family features the looks of disgust and air of superiority the family feels over the monsters but for all that hate, for all that anger and built up years of aggression, all they are going to do is post some stuff on the internet? Really? Right before the battle they have plans and strategies and I got super psyched up for an intense fight, decades in the making. Peterson manages to get a fairly intense fight scene into the book and I really enjoyed reading it. It was what I had been looking forward to the entire time, but I was disappointed. The fight was short lived and ended in a way that left me feeling extremely let down.

Peterson kept her characters familiar and the plot moved forward quickly. It was a good sequel and I felt that she left an opening for a trilogy, but if that's the case I hope social media plays a smaller role.

About the Author
Kent Conwell grew up in the wide-open Texas Panhandle in the town of Wheeler, population 848. His love for the West came naturally, for his grandfather had run away from his Tennessee home when he was 14, bull-whacking his way to the Panhandle where he met his future wife who had traveled from Illinois to Texas.

Where is the loup garou?

This book was long in atmosphere - I liked the Cajun type setting fairly well. I was hoping for more mystery and some possible supernatural goings on. However the story held together pretty well and I enjoyed it.

I'm a southern girl

I picked this book because I am from New Orleans, La and I thought I would enjoy knowing the locations. I have to say I was a bit disappointed, I liked the two main characters Tony and Jack. However, the locals and their dialect didn't do much for me. It just didn't flow and too corny. I hate not liking this as much as thought I would.

Required Reading for Programmers (and Everyone Else)

I have a lot to say about this book, primarily because it is one of the few books I've read that has been amazing in pretty much every way:

* Its purpose is clear and useful: how to manage your time better.
* The writing is thoughtful, pragmatic, and extremely captivating: the author does an excellent job conveying his thoughts to you in the text.
* The flow of the book is simple and straightforward.
* The illustrations in the book are fun, educational, and beautiful.
* The layout of the book is structured in a very intuitive way: each section covers various short topics, each about a page in length. This makes it very easy to flip through for later reference, and find information on specific topics.

If you're wondering whether or not to buy this book: do it now! I promise you will enjoy it, and the benefits greatly outweigh the cost.

* The human mind is awful at multitasking.
* When you are intensely focused on a single task, you work more effectively, and feel more productive.
* Procrastination stems from anxiety about the future.
* You are less likely to procrastinate if you know that you only need to do a small thing.
* A single Pomodoro is a 25 minute chunk of working time, followed by a break.
* By working on a single task for a 25 minute chunk of time, you are able to focus intensely on a single task and make a lot of progress.
* After a 25 minute chunk (a Pomodoro), you reward yourself with a short break.
* Before starting a Pomodoro, you analyze your responsibilities, and pick the most urgent thing that needs attention.
* When you work on your Pomodoro, you make a contract with yourself to intently focus on the task at hand, and nothing else.

Essentially: the Pomodoro technique is a simple time management technique that helps you stay productive, and relaxed. It helps combat stress by forcing your attention to a single thing at a time, which subsequently improves mood, productivity, and excitement.

This is an *awesome* book. It should be required reading for anyone who does any sort of work that requires extensive brainpower. Since reading this book, I've been practicing the Pomodoro technique almost every day, to great results:

- I feel much more relaxed while I'm working.
- I feel a greater sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.
- I know that I'm making progress on my projects.
- I'm able to really enjoy what I'm doing at a much higher level than I was before.

To me, the Pomodoro Technique *feels right*. It feels natural. It's not one of those things that you read about, and never implement because it is time consuming, confusing, or difficult: it is easy, and you will *want* to do it!

I highly recommend this book.

I'm a Fan of Pomodoro Technique, But Not of This Book

I read about the Pomodoro technique online, so I was interested in trying a book on it. I saw this one in my local bookstore and got it, and it was not an enjoyable experience at all.

There is just too much information in the book that is mildly interesting but tangential at best in relation to the Pomodoro Technique. Some of the information seemed marginally relevant, and I kept waiting for the author to tie it into the technique and he didn't. Also, the prose is very painful to get through. It feels like maybe an engineer would get more out of this dry reading experience.

I wanted to rate this higher because I'm a fan of the technique and the author seems like a nice, enthusiastic fellow, but I had to really force myself to finish the book. Later on I realized the actual creator of the Pomodoro Technique has a free downloadable PDF available on his website that explains the technique in a more concise and straightforward method. I downloaded that and read it and it was far more enjoyable and helpful to me.

Interesting Productivity Approach

The Pomodoro approach basically is perform tasks within a time-boxes with a timer enforcing the timebox. The basic approach suggests a 25 minute timebox with relaxing and retrospection outside of the time-boxes. It is a well written book that is easy to read with some lots of sketches that were watercolored by the author. There are also mindmaps of each chapter although they were not all that helpful to me. I have been convinced to try to the technique as an execution technique below a GTD task tracking system. There is a free pdf-book by the inventor of the technique which is also worth reading. This book contributes additional useful process to the method. Pragmatic Programmers (the publisher) has mobile versions of the book.
